The year is 1348 and the Black Death is raging throughout the city of Florence. To escape the horror, a group of aristocratic young men and women take shelter in the countryside. Trying to distract themselves they regal each other with stories about love: fulfilled and unfulfilled, life’s uncertainties, and their own ambiguous immortalities. Based loosely on the famed medieval text “The Decameron” by Giovanni Boccaccio, this historical drama is a tribute to the tales that emerged from one of the darkest periods in Italian history. The film features a cast of Italian all-stars and outstanding visuals of gorgeous locations. Frédéric Boyer, film critic with the Tribeca Film Festival said, “The Tavianis’ interpretation of Boccaccio’s ‘The Decameron’ focuses on five of the 100 stories included in the classic Italian masterpiece. As interpreted by the modern-day masters of Italian cinema, WONDROUS BOCCACCIO is an invitation to experience the narrative charm of one of the greatest European storytellers of all time.” In Italian with English subtitles. [2015, Italy, Runtime: 120 minutes, Not Rated]
