The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation are proud to present The Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Gaetano Donizetti’s climatic opera, ROBERTO DEVEREUX on Saturday, April 16, 12:55 PM at Cape Henlopen High School Theater.
Donizetti is at the height of his musical and dramatic powers in this extraordinary tale that was inspired by a historical incident. Acclaimed bel canto soprano Sondra Radvanovsky sings the role of the older Queen Elizabeth l who is forced to sign the death warrant of the nobleman she loves. The heartbreaking production also stars distinguished tenor Matthew Polenzani as the doomed nobleman, Roberto Devereux. Elīna Garanča performs the role of Sara, the Duchess of Nottingham and the queen’s secret rival; and Mariusz Kwiecien shines as the Duke of Nottingham. Donizetti specialist Maurizio Benini conducts the first-ever Met performance of this work. There will be one intermission at approximately 2:26 pm. This stunning production is the ninth in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of 10 simulcast transmissions for the 2015–16 season. In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scene workings.
Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $25 for adults, $22 for RBFS members, Met members, and Seniors (65+); $15 for Students (with ID), and children (12 and under). Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Online reservations may be made with MasterCard or VISA until noon on Friday, April 15. Admission will be offered at the door with cash payment only. Lunch from Hobos Restaurant will be available in the atrium of the High School starting a noon.
