For January’s Monthly Screening, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present the uplifting and compelling documentary “Rising from Ashes” at 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 23 at The Den (Bear Trap Dunes) in Ocean View, and at 7:00 pm on Friday, January 24 in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway in Rehoboth Beach.
Narrated and directed by Academy Award® winning actor, Forest Whitaker, “Rising from Ashes” is the remarkable story of how the sport of cycling inspires individual redemption and healing, team perseverance, and country pride. Two worlds collided when American cycling legend, Jock Boyer moved to Rwanda, Africa to help build the first Rwandan national cycling team in hopes of representing their country at the 2012 Olympics. As they set out against impossible odds both Jock and the team find new purpose as they rise from the ashes of their past. This powerful and moving documentary reveals how a group of rag tag cyclists are transformed into a powerful symbol of hope for a country recovering from one of the world's most devastating genocides. Joe Neumaier from “New York Daily News” writes that, “Ashes is joyous and uplifting, full of spirit, with memorable athletes and remarkable achievements, both big and small.” [2012, US, Runtime: 82 min, Not Rated]
Admission for Monthly Screenings is $4 for Rehoboth Beach Film Society members (current membership card must be presented), and $6 for future members. Tickets will be sold at the door on a first come, first served basis.
