Nine years ago the businesses in the historic district began promoting visitation to Lewes on the weekend closest to Valentine’s Day. It has become more “dog-centric” in the past few years. The Yappy Hour includes the opportunity for pets and their owners to feast on delicious food and refreshing libations such as Bark-tini, Cat-atonic, Mutt-ini. There will be a 50-50 raffle with the proceeds benefiting the Delaware SPCA in Georgetown. The event was conceived by P.U.P.S of Lewes owner Lesley Bowers who donates pet-centric gift baskets for another raffle drawing that also benefits the SPCA. Canine Cabin donates dog treats to the canines on the porch and Irish Eyes donates 10% of their total food sales for the entire day to the SPCA. During the event, the SPCA will be hosting a “Fill the Van” for people to donate blankets, sheets, pet food, kitty litter, toys, dog bones and bleach for cleaning their kennels. Attendees to Yappy Hour can come with or without their pets and dogs should be on a leash with one dog and one handler.
